Our Story

A community looking after its own hospital.

Friends of Nenagh Hospital was established by a group of local volunteers who recognised the vital role the hospital plays in the lives of people across the mid-west region.

For more than 38 years, the Friends have raised hundreds of thousands of euros to fund equipment, enhance patient services, and support the dedicated staff at Nenagh Hospital. Each fundraising event, each donation, and each hour offered by our members and volunteers is for improving care for patients and their families.

We are a volunteer-run charity with no paid staff; all funds raised goes to the betterment of Nenagh Hospital. Whether you are a former patient, a local business, or simply someone who cares about Nenagh and its community, there is a place for you in the Friends of Nenagh Hospital.

How We Help

Where your donations go.

Medical Equipment

Funding the scanners, monitors, and diagnostic tools that the hospital needs but that HSE budgets alone cannot always provide.

Patient Comfort

Items and services that make a hospital stay more bearable — for patients going through difficult moments and for the families who support them.

Staff Support

Training, resources, and recognition for the nurses, doctors, and healthcare workers who give so much to our community every day.

Service Enhancement

Improvements to facilities and services that go beyond statutory funding — raising the standard of care available right here in Tipperary.

Ann Tobin and family

Story

A daughter's gift in memory of her father.

“Peter was a proud Nenagh man. We wanted his memory to live on in the hospital that cared so much for our family.”

In 2025, Ann Tobin, wife of the late Peter Tobin, Pearse St, Nenagh, and their daughters Rhianna and Emily organised a community fundraiser in Ballina, Co Mayo, to mark the first anniversary of Peter's passing. The event brought together family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues from far and near who had known and loved Peter, and on whose lives he had impacted.

The family donated €15,000 from this event to Friends of Nenagh Hospital. This gesture was the Tobin family's acknowledgment to the staff who cared for Peter, and a lasting tribute to the patients and families who receive treatment in Nenagh Hospital every day. This act of generosity expresses the high regard with which members of the public hold the Friends charity.

The Friends of Nenagh Hospital are deeply honoured by the trust the community places in them. The generosity of families like the Tobins reaffirms our commitment to support the needs of the patients and staff of Nenagh Hospital, on your behalf.

Ways to Give

How you can support us.

Donate

A one-off or monthly gift — whatever you can give makes a real difference to patients and staff at Nenagh Hospital. Every euro raised goes directly to equipment and care.

Fundraise

Organise a coffee morning, a walk, a quiz night, or a sponsored event in memory of a loved one. We'll support you every step of the way with materials, advice, and a collection bucket.

Legacy

A gift in your will is one of the most meaningful things you can do for your community. By remembering the Friends of Nenagh Hospital in your estate, you help ensure care for generations to come.

Corporate

Local businesses are the backbone of Nenagh. A sponsorship or partnership with us puts your name alongside a cause the whole community believes in — and every cent goes back into the hospital.
